How to Store your Halloween Decorations

storing-halloween-decorationsDecorating for the holidays can be a blast, making it hard to put them away when the holiday season is over. This Halloween, try following these steps for your decor storage solutions.

Light Storage

If you including some orange and black lights with your Halloween decor this fall, you may be wondering how you’re going to put these away without tangling them. Try wrapping them around the cardboard from an old roll of paper towels to keep them organized. Use masking tape to label where they typically in your home to remember which part of the house you’d like them in next year.

To avoid breaking or damaging any bulbs, place them inside a storage box in an insulated bag.

Packing Decorations

When loading decorations back into their boxes or into plastic tubs, we recommend putting what you’re going to need first on top. This will help reduce any hassle next year and keep things organized. Also, be sure not to pack boxes too heavy so that they can be easily maneuvered next year when it comes time to take them off the top shelf.

Small Pieces

If you have small knick-knacks that need to stay organized, store these in a tackle box. Any type of storage case with multiple compartments is perfect for keeping small items in place. Remember- when it comes to storage containers, consider a clear plastic to tell things apart without having to open them.

Halloween Costumes

To store the family’s costumes for years to come, place them in garment bags to be hung up to maintain their value. If costumes are extra large, place these in vacuum-sealed storage bags. You want to keep them dry and dust-free without taking up too much space.

I wrap my christmas lights around an old wrapping paper tube, and it helps immensely with packing. However, I also really like the suggestion to store small knick-knacks in a tackle box. I may need to do that with my more sensitive ornaments.

I remember the infomercials selling the vacuum bags!! So funny, but they work wonders!

I’m a big fan of donating my old costumes to goodwill or something similar. It’s just so fun to re-design your costume, year-by-year!

I tend to pick random articles of clothing out of my closet and make up some crazy costume! It’s so fun! 🙂

I keep any sort of makeup in a special halloween storage container. It helps so that I don’t have to go out and buy more, a year later.

Storing things can be a pain, so lockers are always a good idea.
